The Plum Village App is a non-profit project which originated as a volunteer-driven effort. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are now able to pay for a small team (who mostly work part-time on the project) to further develop the app as well as curate the wonderful content within.
This page shows current opportunities to help contribute towards the Plum Village app. We list any open paid positions and volunteering opportunities related to the app, see below.
We are committed to expanding the accessibility of the app and fostering an equitable, inclusive work culture and environment. We encourage applicants representing dimensions of difference that include — but are not limited to — age, national origin, ethnicity, race, religious and spiritual tradition, ability, sexual orientation, and gender. We are committed to a team where each person can ‘Be beautiful, be themselves’ as well as collaborate skillfully and joyfully with each other.
Paid job opportunities
Mobile App Developer
We are looking for a Mobile App Developer to join the Plum Village App team. You will work closely with two other developers as well as the wider app team.
As a member of the development team you will be working on further developing a React Native based mobile app for iOS and Android, supported by Firebase and various backend services. We also maintain a web app and web-based admin dashboard. We use TypeScript and strictly follow the Airbnb style guide when we write code.
As developers, we are comfortable working independently and asynchronously, but we also support each other with advice and code reviews. We join the wider team for a regular “tea time” to share about our work on the app as well sharing a little about our life and our well-being (only what we are comfortable with). Through applying the practice of “Dharma sharing” and “deep listening” in our work, we ensure every team member can express themselves and be listened to without judgement or interruption.
The essential requirements for this role are:
- Strong JavaScript / TypeScript development skills;
- Experience using React Native for mobile app development;
- Minimum of two years of experience as a developer (we are also open to more experienced candidates).
Additionally, any of the following would improve your fit for the role:
- Experience in Android or iOS native module/application development;
- Experience in backend / API development;
- Experience developing web apps;
- A Computer Science or similar degree;
- Familiarity with mindfulness and meditation in the Plum Village Tradition.
This is a remote role for a contractor / freelancer. The number of hours is negotiable but we are looking for someone able to commit to at least 20 hours in a typical week.
Compensation will be agreed based on your skills and experience. Please keep in mind however that as a non-profit, the compensation for this role is likely to be a little lower than that offered by commercial companies.
Please apply by sending your CV and a cover letter to hello@plumvillage.app with the subject “Application for Mobile App Developer role”. We will be reviewing applications regularly until the role is filled.
