Join the Plum Village App team

The Plum Village App is a non-profit project which originated as a volunteer-driven effort. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are now able to pay for a small team (who mostly work part-time on the project) to further develop the app as well as curate the wonderful content within.

This page shows current opportunities to help contribute towards the Plum Village app. We list any open paid positions and volunteering opportunities related to the app, see below.

We are committed to expanding the accessibility of the app and fostering an equitable, inclusive work culture and environment. We encourage applicants representing dimensions of difference that include — but are not limited to — age, national origin, ethnicity, race, religious and spiritual tradition, ability, sexual orientation, and gender. We are committed to a team where each person can ‘Be beautiful, be themselves’ as well as collaborate skillfully and joyfully with each other. If you have any needs or require adjustments to participate fully, we encourage you to let us know so we can provide reasonable support wherever possible.

Paid job opportunities

Content Manager

We are looking for a Content Manager to join the Plum Village App team. Plum Village App offers thousands of content items across 8 languages as video, audio, or text. In this central role, you will work to constantly improve this offering, helping our users to get the most out of the existing content library, and supporting the addition of new content.

As we further develop the app to make content more discoverable by users, we need to improve the way content is organised. We are categorising existing content in new ways, adding additional metadata to each content item, so that we can offer new ways of browsing or filtering content in the app, or improve the way content is presented within the app. Part of your role would be to take the lead on adding this new metadata. This may be through manually working through thousands of content items yourself, or collaborating with language ambassadors or volunteers, or consulting with our development team to find effective ways to assign metadata automatically.

You will also help with adding new content to the app, in particular ensuring we add content that is high quality, added regularly, and covering a breadth of different content types across all languages that we support. We try to present a range of diverse Plum Village voices (monastics, Dharma teachers, and others in the community), to ensure our content is accessible to a broad range of users.

As a member of a remote and international team, you will need to be comfortable working independently and asynchronously most of the time. However this is also a collaborative role, and you will work closely with experienced core team members, language ambassadors and content contributors. In the core team, we meet online for a regular “tea time” to share about our work on the app as well as sharing a little about our life and our well-being (only what we are comfortable with). Through applying the practice of “Dharma sharing” and “deep listening” in our work, we ensure every team member can express themselves and be listened to without judgement or interruption.

A member of our content team will provide initial training and support for this role, and after becoming comfortable in the role, there will be ongoing collaboration opportunities with content team members.

The essential requirements for this role are:

  • Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Understanding of meditation / mindfulness / Buddhist terminology (in particular in the Plum Village tradition).
  • Broadly aligned with our values & principles.
  • Able to work proactively and take initiative.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and manage relationships across teams.
  • Strategic thinker who can balance big-picture planning with execution.
  • Comfortable using AI tools to maximise impact.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and content management systems (ours is custom-built).

Additionally, any of the following would improve your fit for the role:

  • Familiarity with practicing mindfulness in the Plum Village tradition.
  • SEO knowledge.
  • Experience with Google Analytics or similar.
  • Knowledge of one or more of our supported languages (in addition to English).

This is a remote role for a contractor / freelancer, for someone able to dedicate at least 15 hours per week, with a possibility of increasing hours over time. We welcome applications from anywhere in the world, however, regular availability for meetings during the working day in the CET timezone will be required.

Compensation and hours will be agreed based upon availability as well as your skills and experience. Please keep in mind however that as a non-profit, the compensation might be a little lower than that offered by commercial companies.

Please apply by sending your CV and a cover letter to hello@plumvillage.app with the subject “Application for Content Manager role”. We will be reviewing applications regularly until the role is filled.
