Cultivating compassion and happiness since 2018: The impact of the Plum Village App

Dear friends,

In August last year, the Plum Village App reached an important milestone: one million downloads since its launch in 2018. 

As exciting as this is, there is so much more to our amazing journey. To give a sense of the app’s impact so far, we have put together a thorough but easily browsable report for the year 2024 – the first of many more to come! 

Impact report 2024

In just one year, over 1.9 million hours of collective practice took place via the app, with 160,000 monthly practitioners joining us from across the world. 

We hope that by reading or browsing this report you’ll continue to discover new ways to get the most from the app, while better understanding how we work and our deep connections to the extended Plum Village community. From the most popular items on the app, testimonials, and collaborations like podcast series The Way Out Is In or Thich Nhat Hanh’s newly translated teachings, to our YouTube channel, and details on how we nurture our mission, it’s all in there. 

Each month, around 90,000 of us collectively meditated for more than 100,000 hours.

Together, we are planting seeds of mindfulness that will bloom for generations to come. Because behind every number in this report lie real individuals discovering that peace is always available, and that, when we practice together, we are never truly alone.

Year 2025 and beyond

This year, we continued to make constant additions and improvements to the app. In July 2025, we launched version 4.0, the highlight of which was a much-needed new feature: contributor screens

We look forward to gradually bringing more mobile app features to the Web Edition of the app, creating a seamless practice experience across all devices. Available at web.plumvillage.app, this version is especially suited for those using a computer, or who prefer to access teachings through a web browser. 

New content is added to the app on a daily basis, so watch this space for announcements, and the app’s Latest Updates for new material. We’re also excited to announce that a redesign is in the works.

From testimonials, suggestions, and comments, to creating subtitles for audio and video material, and spreading the word about the app and our events, we are extremely grateful for the time and effort behind your constant support. Many of your suggestions have become features, or helped us to tailor the app to the real needs of the practitioners using it.

Other ways to support the app 

Offering a monthly donation towards the continued development of the app enables us to keep adding new meditations, talks, and other resources. As has been the case with Buddhist teachings for millennia, the app is freely available to all – but this is only possible due to the generosity of many donors.

If you are enjoying the app but are not able to donate at this time, you can support us by leaving a positive review on the App Store, Google Play, or TrustPilot.

You can also actively help our efforts by contributing subtitles in English or any other language.

I have made in person and online retreats in the past, and the app helps me feel connected to the Sangha. A special note of praise to the filmmaker who is taking portions of Thâys’ dharma talks and meditations, and putting them together with beautiful film segments. I so enjoy watching them and have saved them to my favourites.
