App release 2.5: Repeat tracks + SD card support

Dear friends,

We are pleased to announce a new update in time for the New Year. Version 2.5 is out now on the iOS App Store and on Google Play for Android.

This release adds an option for listening to an audio track on repeat, plus support for saving offline media items to SD cards on Android devices.

Improved audio player

We received feedback that when listening to a song, chant or talk, it was hard to follow along the accompanying lyrics or transcript text because the space for text was too small. In response, we’ve made the audio player slimmer:

Repeat feature for audio and video

We’ve also added a repeat option. This can be turned on with the repeat button, to the immediate right of the play/pause button:

When listening to an audio track; the repeat button is located to the right of play/pause (here it is not yet enabled).

The track will play in a loop until disabled (by pressing it again) or until the track is stopped.

Listening to an audio track with the repeat button enabled.

We anticipate that this function will be most useful when listening to chants or songs.

SD card support on Android

On Android phones and tablets, we have added support for downloading media items onto an SD card for offline use. This is useful if you would like tracks to be available offline, but have limited space on your device.

To learn more about this feature and how to use it, please read ‘Using an SD card with the Plum Village app’.

The new Settings screen (found on the Extras tab) includes an option to use an SD card on Android devices.

Other improvements in v2.5

As usual, this update includes a range of small improvements and bug fixes. Most notably, we have:

  • Added a setting which allows disenablement of the data warning when downloading tracks using mobile data (in Extras > Settings)
  • Added an alert after the first download of a media item, to explain how offline items work
  • Fixed a bug which could lead to the audio player controls becoming unresponsive.

Continuing the development of the Plum Village app in 2021

As we enter the New Year, we will be reviewing feedback and deciding which new features to prioritise for development. If you would like to have a say, this is the perfect time to vote on the existing suggestions or to submit an idea for a new feature on our feedback board.

As has been the case with Buddhist teachings for millennia, there is no charge for the Plum Village app and its digital content. If your means allow, please consider offering a donation to support our small team’s continued work on the app in 2021.

  2. hi, dear friends, I loved the old version of the app too; now it does not open. can that be fixed so that i will still be able to use the old Plum app sometimes? I cannot see the old Plum app in the App store. thank you for any information and for your online apps and all you do.

    1. Dear Jill, as a small team we do not have the resources to maintain old versions of the app. However we do want the current version of the app to work for as many people as possible, so if you are having any trouble with it please get in touch and we will help to get it working. Thank you 🙏
